Police Arrest Taxi Driver Over Series of Rape, Assault, and Robbery Cases Against Female Passengers
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Ben Adegbola, over his alleged involvement in multiple cases of rape, assault, and armed robbery targeting female passengers across the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspect was apprehended on October 31 at about 9:40 a.m. by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti. His arrest followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who ordered a discreet investigation after several victims came forward with complaints.
Police reports indicate that a red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT, allegedly used by the suspect during the attacks, was recovered and is now being held as evidence. The suspect, who had been identified in viral social media posts by some victims, is currently in custody as investigations continue.
SP Adebisi confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend other possible accomplices linked to the crimes. The Command also urged additional victims to come forward and assist with the investigation, assuring that their identities would be protected.
Preliminary findings describe Adegbola as a “vicious and notorious serial offender” who preyed on unsuspecting female passengers, committing acts of rape, indecent assault, and armed robbery.
Commissioner Jimoh reiterated the police command’s commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public safety. “We are determined to ensure that justice is served for the survivors and to uphold the security of Lagos State,” he stated, adding that further updates on the case will be shared as the investigation progresses.
