Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Killing Wife with Axe
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man identified as TJ for allegedly killing his wife, Queen, in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.
According to reports, the suspect attacked his wife with an axe and fled the scene shortly after the incident. A resident, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on condition of anonymity, said the couple had earlier celebrated the birthday of their two-year-old son before the tragic event occurred.
“There was no sign of a quarrel between them. Everyone went to bed peacefully that night, but by morning, no one saw them come out. We thought they were still asleep,” the source said. “It was their little boy who came out later with bloodstains on his body. When neighbours saw him and realized he wasn’t hurt, they rushed into the room and found the woman lying lifeless in a pool of blood, her throat slit.”
The husband was nowhere to be found afterward, prompting residents to alert the Auchi Police Division. Officers immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in Benin. He stated that TJ had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
“The suspect has been apprehended and moved to the State CID for proper investigation,” Yamu said, assuring that the command would ensure justice is served in the case.
