Anambra Police Arrest Five Suspects Posing as Vigilantes for Robbery
The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended five men allegedly masquerading as vigilante operatives to rob members of the public.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu as part of ongoing investigations into criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
Items recovered from the suspects include two pump-action guns, five live cartridges, a shuttle bus, face masks, number plates, and other incriminating materials. During questioning, the suspects admitted their involvement in criminal activities and explained how they carried out robberies using a shuttle bus while pretending to be vigilantes.
Ikenga added that the suspects are cooperating with authorities and providing information that could lead to the identification of additional accomplices.
The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and called on residents to continue providing timely and credible information to help prevent and tackle crime in the state.
