Police Arrest 8 Suspects in Connection with UNIMAID Lecturer’s Murder
In a swift response to the tragic killing of a lecturer from the Department of Physical Health Education at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), the Borno State Police Command has apprehended eight suspects linked to the heinous crime.
According to ASP Daso Kenneth, spokesperson for the command, the arrests came following a report filed by the university’s Chief Security Officer after the discovery of Dr. Abdulkadir Kamal’s body in his office.
Kenneth stated, “Our men swung into action immediately, cordoned off the scene of the crime, and evacuated the body to hospital for autopsy.”
He emphasized that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of involvement of those arrested and to uncover any additional perpetrators.
The university’s spokesperson, Prof. Danjuma Gambo, confirmed that Dr. Abdulkadir was brutally murdered in his office on Sunday evening while attending to pending work.
Speculation regarding a possible motive, particularly concerning Dr. Abdulkadir’s role as the examination officer, has circulated. However, the university’s authorities have deferred to law enforcement for a thorough investigation and official determination of motives.
A lecturer within the faculty revealed that Dr. Abdulkadir was ambushed during the Easter holiday while working in his office. The assailants reportedly used knives and hammers in the attack, leaving the lecturer dead and absconding with his vehicle and other belongings.
As the investigation continues, both the university community and the public are urged to remain calm as authorities work diligently to bring the perpetrators to justice.
