Police Arrest 65-Year-Old Man With Over 1,000 Rounds of Live Ammunition in Onitsha
Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested a 65-year-old man, identified as Akpan Godwin, for unlawful possession of over 1,000 rounds of live ammunition.
The arrest was carried out on Friday, August 22, 2025, by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Akwuzu, following credible intelligence. According to the Anambra State Police Command, operatives intercepted the suspect in Nkpor, Onitsha, where he was found with 1,100 rounds of live ammunition.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Godwin is allegedly involved in the illegal sale of ammunition. Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed in a statement that the suspect confessed to his role in the illicit trade and also mentioned other accomplices.
“The Command has intensified investigations and launched a manhunt for other individuals linked to the crime,” Ikenga said, adding that updates will be provided as the case progresses.
The Anambra State Police Command urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to aid security operations across the state.
