In a decisive operation led by a joint security team, an insurgents’ camp located in Achalla, the headquarters of Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, was successfully raided. The operation, ordered by Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, caught the insurgents off guard as they fled with gunshot wounds, leaving behind a trail of blood.

According to a statement released by DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the security forces launched the coordinated operation in response to the insurgents’ disruption of trading activities at Achalla Market the previous Monday. The insurgents had ordered traders to observe a sit-at-home directive, prompting heightened concern from the state’s Security Apparatus.

The operation, executed in the early hours of Monday, February 19, 2024, yielded significant success, leading to the recovery of five exotic vehicles that had been previously snatched at gunpoint. Additionally, over 300 rounds of Machine Gun Ammunition and 34 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition for AK-47 rifles were seized during the operation.

All operatives involved in the operation from various security services have safely returned to their base. The Commissioner of Police has issued a directive for the owners of the recovered vehicles to come forward with proof of ownership to collect their vehicles.

The pursuit of the fleeing insurgents will be intensified, extending the manhunt to hospitals and clinics to ensure their apprehension for justice after receiving necessary medical treatment. The security forces have demonstrated their commitment to restoring peace and order in the state, dealing a significant blow to the activities of the insurgents in Anambra State.
