Photos: Raid on Insurgent Camps in Anambra State: Police-Led Joint Security Force Seizes Explosive Devices, Supplies in Ongoing Operation

In a decisive move against the recent surge in attacks on police stations in Anambra State, a Police-Led Joint Security Force, under the directive of Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye, embarked on a mission to identify and dismantle insurgent camps operating within the state.

Following previous successful operations that led to the destruction of two insurgent camps in Ogbunka, Orumba South LGA, and Achalla, Awka North LGA, the Joint Security Force intensified its efforts.

On Friday, 29th March 2024, the Joint Security Force conducted a raid on the forests of Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA, where scattered insurgent camps were discovered. The criminals, sensing the approaching force, fled the scene, leaving behind significant evidence of their activities.

During the operation, six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and two Walkie Talkies, intended for attacks, were seized from the camps. Additionally, a substantial amount of food and groceries, likely used to sustain the insurgents, were recovered. All identified camps were promptly destroyed to eliminate potential bases for future attacks.

The search for insurgents and their camps continues, with a primary objective of neutralizing the threat, rescuing abducted victims, and recovering firearms and stolen vehicles in their possession.

In a message to the people of Anambra State, Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye extended warm Easter greetings and expressed prayers for peace to prevail across the state. He reassured citizens of the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to serving the community, despite the inherent risks. The Commissioner urged cooperation from the public in identifying insurgent hideouts, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in safeguarding the state’s stability and development. He assured that the Police would safeguard the identities of informants to protect them from potential harm.
