Photo: Former APC Presidential Aspirant Evicted from Abuja Residence Over Unpaid Rent
Tunde Omosebi, a former presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 elections, has been evicted from his Abuja residence amid allegations of unpaid rent and other controversies. The eviction was carried out following a court ruling and has generated significant public interest due to the claims and counterclaims surrounding the incident.
A video of the eviction, shared widely on X (formerly Twitter) on November 15, 2024, captured court enforcement officials, supported by police officers, executing the eviction at the high-end property in Abuja. The property owner, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Mr. Omosebi’s tenancy had expired more than four years ago. According to the landlord, repeated efforts to recover outstanding rent payments had failed, leaving legal action as the only recourse.
The landlord explained that Mr. Omosebi not only declined to pay the arrears but also refused to vacate the property. “He ignored every attempt to resolve the matter amicably, which forced me to go to court. Even after filing the case, he never appeared in court to defend himself, leaving the court to rule in my favor,” the landlord stated.
Documents obtained by reporters included a letter dated June 30, 2022, allegedly written by Mr. Omosebi, in which he declared his intention to terminate the lease agreement. The letter stated:
“Due to irreconcilable differences on your breach of agreements, we opt out of renewing our lease. This letter serves as notice to vacate your property within the allowable period.”
Despite this letter, the landlord claimed that Mr. Omosebi did not vacate the premises as promised. Instead, the legal battle escalated, culminating in a court-ordered eviction.
Following the eviction, shocking allegations emerged about activities purportedly conducted on the property. The landlord alleged that several diabolic items were discovered on the premises, including cow bones, skulls, and calabashes draped in red cloth. An anonymous eyewitness claimed that Mr. Omosebi had been performing ritual practices at the property, which allegedly involved slaughtering four cows every Thursday.
Reporters visited the property and confirmed the presence of these items, adding a mysterious layer to the already contentious legal battle. The landlord further claimed that the court proceedings were marred by unusual events, including the death of a magistrate overseeing the case and the loss of a close relative of the judge who ultimately delivered the final ruling.
When reached for comment, Mr. Omosebi denied all allegations, describing them as baseless fabrications. He also refuted claims that he ever owned the property, asserting that the accusations were part of a smear campaign against him. “This is all fabricated,” he said, declining to elaborate further.
