Court Throws Out £950 Trillion Rights Suit Against Atiku Abubakar, Others

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a staggering £950 trillion rights enforcement suit filed by businessman Tunde Omosebi against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and several others. In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho described the case as “highly unreasonable” and lacking any legal merit.

Filed on June 5, 2024, the case originally listed Hallies & Partner Ltd, Atiku Abubakar, Clifford Odibe, and Daniel Mbohok as defendants. However, Omosebi later amended the suit without court approval to include additional individuals, expanding the number of defendants to 13 by May 5, 2025.

Omosebi, who described himself as a businessman and self-styled Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, claimed he was assaulted and criminally intimidated by agents of Hallies & Partner Ltd at his office in July 2023. He alleged that the incident violated his rights and demanded £950 trillion in damages, alongside a public apology across various national and international media platforms. He also sought a permanent restriction order preventing the defendants from coming within 20 kilometers of his businesses and properties, and £95 trillion in exemplary damages.

Justice Omotosho ruled that the suit not only violated procedural rules but also lacked a reasonable cause of action. The court emphasized the importance of judicial efficiency and warned against frivolous litigation, calling on the Nigerian Bar Association to discourage such cases.

In his remarks, the judge advised Omosebi to await judgment in a separate claim he filed against the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, and others, where he is demanding £990 trillion. That case is scheduled for a ruling on preliminary objections on June 4.

Justice Omotosho concluded by warning that the judiciary must not become a platform for baseless legal theatrics, stating, “We can’t continue this way because the temple of justice is not open for everything.”
