Peter Obi Will Soon Join APC – Bwala Claims on Live TV
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has claimed that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will soon defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking during an interview on the TVC Breakfast show on Wednesday, March 12, Bwala said that the APC is gradually absorbing key members of the Labour Party without actively soliciting them.
According to Bwala, the recent defection of Valentine Ozigbo to the APC is a significant sign that Obi’s defection is imminent. He described Ozigbo as a “custodian of Peter Obi” and argued that his move signals what is to come. He said, “Do you know we are emptying the Labour Party? Not because we are asking them to come in. They are coming. Valentine Ozigbo has joined us, Balami has joined us, even Peter Obi will join us.”
Bwala also suggested that Obi would not run under the Labour Party in the next election, insisting the party is losing its grip on major political figures. He argued that the recent wave of political activity is a tactic designed to dominate media narratives, but claimed it would not last. “After one or two weeks of this mini-dramatic activity… they’ll start fighting over who will be president or vice president,” he said.
He further commented on Nasir El-Rufai’s political decisions, claiming the former Kaduna governor chose not to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because he couldn’t exert influence there. According to Bwala, El-Rufai opted for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he could have more control.
