Peter Obi Reveals Those Behind Labour Party Crisis
Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of being behind the persistent crisis within the party. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s *Morning Show* on Monday, Obi alleged that the leadership conflict in the Labour Party has been deliberately instigated and is being sustained by the current government.
The former Anambra State governor expressed concern over what he described as a growing culture of propaganda and dishonesty in Nigeria’s political space. According to him, the turmoil facing the Labour Party is not an internal struggle but the result of external interference aimed at weakening the party’s cohesion and credibility.
“This is what you get always in Nigeria, because we now live in a country of propaganda and lies – and they manufacture it,” Obi said during the interview. “The problem we have in Labour Party is problem instigated and sustained by the government of today.”
Obi referenced recent actions and statements by some party officials, including instances where the party chairman publicly disparaged a sitting state governor, describing such behavior as evidence of deeper, government-fueled dysfunction. He questioned the sincerity of those involved, pointing out that the attacks were not isolated or coincidental.
“Forget about me, so it’s not weak. Okay, I’m weak, but it’s not weak. Is every other person there weak?” he asked rhetorically, suggesting that the crisis extends beyond personal grievances and is part of a broader effort to destabilize the party.
He warned that the trend of promoting disunity and misinformation is affecting not just political parties but the entire fabric of Nigerian society. “They are trying to put problems everywhere, they want to even put problems in families,” Obi said, lamenting that speaking the truth in today’s political climate often results in backlash and name-calling.
