Peter Obi Appoints Yunusa Tanko as Interim Leader of Obidient Movement Worldwide

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has appointed Yunusa Tanko as the interim national coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide. The announcement was made during an X Spaces engagement on Tuesday, where Obi emphasized Tanko’s leadership skills and his track record as key factors in his selection.

Obi explained that Tanko’s appointment followed a consensus to allocate the position to the northern region. “It is crucial to have leadership in place to support this building process,” Obi said, highlighting that the decision came after extensive consultations within the movement. He added that Tanko was the most nominated candidate from key stakeholders, emphasizing that all current appointments are interim as the movement continues to develop its structure.

Tanko, who previously served as the media director and spokesman for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, has a long history of political involvement. He chaired the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in 2015 and was the presidential candidate for the National Conscience Party in 2019.

Obi also reminded the movement’s supporters of the ongoing need for competent and capable leaders, noting that over one million leadership positions will eventually need to be filled as the movement works towards building a better Nigeria.
