“It’s Time for Fresh Faces; Tinubu, Atiku, Peter Obi Should Step Aside” – Kenneth Okonkwo
In a statement regarding the future of Nigerian politics, Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign council, has called on President Bola Tinubu, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race. Okonkwo argues that these political figures have failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians and should make way for new leadership.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, the Nollywood actor and politician expressed his dissatisfaction with both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition, criticizing their inability to collaborate effectively. He highlighted that despite having more opposition members in the House of Representatives, the opposition parties failed to unite, which could have allowed them to secure key leadership positions.
“I completely agree that we need new faces in Nigerian politics,” Okonkwo stated. “That’s why I believe Atiku, Peter Obi, and Tinubu should step aside. The ruling party has not delivered, and the opposition has also fallen short.”
Okonkwo’s remarks reflect a growing sentiment among some Nigerians that the current political leaders have not adequately addressed the country’s challenges. As the 2027 elections approach, his call for fresh leadership could spark further debate about the future direction of Nigerian politics.
