Peter Obi, Alex Otti Summon High-Stakes Labour Party NEC Meeting in Abuja
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, have jointly summoned a crucial meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), set to take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in Abuja.
According to a notice signed by Ibrahim Umar, spokesman for the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), the NEC meeting will be held alongside an interactive town hall engagement with major party stakeholders at the Transcorp Hilton. The event aims to gather key figures across various organs of the Labour Party to deliberate on the party’s direction and strategies.
Those expected to attend include the 2023 vice presidential candidate, current and former senators, senatorial candidates, sitting and former members of the House of Representatives, and LP candidates in the 2023 general election. Also listed are members of the National Caretaker Committee (NTC), former LP governorship candidates who remain with the party, representatives from the NLC/TUC Political Commission, and all members of the dissolved National Working Committee (NWC).
This meeting follows a recent Supreme Court decision that effectively ended the leadership of the Julius Abure-led NWC, marking a significant shift in the party’s internal structure and prompting renewed efforts to unify its ranks.
