PDP Urges Immediate Dismissal of Minister Betta Edu Over Corruption Allegations

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the immediate dismissal of Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, urging President Bola Tinubu to take swift action.

PDP spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, released a statement on Sunday, deeming Edu’s continued tenure amidst corruption allegations as “provocative.” The minister faced severe criticism following the emergence of a memo revealing her directive to transfer N585 million to a private account, as well as approving funds for travel expenses to Kogi, a state lacking an airport.

As the controversy surrounding Edu unfolds, Nigerians are demanding a thorough investigation into her actions and the ministry’s financial dealings. The PDP insists that President Tinubu should promptly dismiss Edu and hand her over to security agencies for prosecution.

The opposition party asserts that the alleged fraud exposed in the ministry merely scratches the surface of the widespread corruption plaguing the government, which, according to them, has severely impacted the nation’s economy.

The statement questions the morality of a minister entrusted with public funds meant for impoverished Nigerians diverting substantial sums for personal use. It emphasizes the urgency for President Tinubu to demonstrate a commitment to the fight against corruption by taking decisive action against Edu.

The PDP further calls upon the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to invite Edu for questioning and initiate a comprehensive investigation into the purported large-scale corruption within the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
