PDP Supporters Burn Billboards, Vow to Work Against Party Over Ramadan Palliatives
Supporters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lamba ward, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, staged a protest on Wednesday, setting fire to party billboards and palliatives in anger over what they described as inadequate Ramadan relief packages.
Chanting slogans such as “We don’t want” and “Take the palliative to the chairman,” the protesters took to the streets, tearing down posters and billboards before setting them ablaze. They also burned the food items distributed to them, rejecting what they considered an insultingly small allocation.
Sources revealed that the protesters accused the LGA chairman of withholding larger portions of the relief items meant for party members. They warned that they would work against the PDP in the 2027 elections if such treatment continued.
According to some party members who gathered at the ward office, the chairman allocated only nine bags of six measures of rice and nine bags of six measures of maize to an electoral ward with thousands of PDP supporters.
Expressing his frustration, party member Haladu Mus said, “Look at the small amount of grains they brought to us as party members. Two measures of rice and one measure of maize for Ja’oji polling unit. The same was given to Runji polling unit for Ramadan.”
Another supporter, Dayyabu Ibrahim, described the palliatives as inadequate, warning that party leaders would face consequences. “By God’s grace, they will see in the next election,” he declared.
Efforts to reach Wase LGA Chairman Hamisu Amani for comments were unsuccessful, as multiple calls went unanswered, and a text message sent to him received no response at the time of reporting.
