PDP Spokesperson Resigns, Says Party Is Headed to the Morgue
Kennedy Peretei, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, has resigned from the party, delivering a damning verdict on its leadership and future. In a resignation letter dated April 9, 2025, and addressed to the chairman of Arogbo Ward 1 in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, Peretei criticized the state party leaders for lacking genuine interest in electoral success.
According to Peretei, the PDP has become a vehicle for personal enrichment rather than political progress. “It is difficult to work with persons whose interest is to use the party to trade every election cycle,” he wrote. He described the party as “on its way to the morgue,” citing a prolonged leadership crisis and a string of electoral failures.
Peretei, who previously served as the State Financial Secretary from 1999 to 2003 and returned as Publicity Secretary in 2020, said he contributed meaningfully to the party over the years. However, he expressed frustration over the continued dominance of individuals he accused of holding the party hostage, making it impossible to mount a credible challenge in recent election cycles.
In a parting shot, he urged those dependent on election funds and political patronage to rethink their priorities, suggesting they find alternative means of livelihood to avoid becoming “political bandits, Almajaris or just Yes men.” His departure adds to growing concerns about the PDP’s internal cohesion in the state.
