PDP Slams President Tinubu’s New Year Message as Full of Empty Promises, Deceit
In a scathing response to President Bola Tinubu’s New Year message, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has labeled it a “harvest of deceit, false claims, and empty promises.” The PDP, through its spokesperson Debo Ologunagba, expressed disappointment, stating that Tinubu’s address failed to address critical issues facing the nation.
Tinubu, in his New Year broadcast, pledged to implement a new living wage for workers and expedite power projects. He also emphasized the need for stellar performance from ministers and appointees, outlining evaluation parameters. However, the PDP contends that the president’s speech lacked substance and neglected pressing issues such as insecurity, infrastructure decay, and economic challenges.
The PDP spokesperson accused Tinubu of ignoring the recent Christmas Eve massacre in Plateau State, where over 200 Nigerians lost their lives to terrorists. Ologunagba criticized the president for not addressing the ongoing security concerns and the exodus of multinational companies from the country.
Describing Tinubu’s address as an “unpardonable assault on the sensibility of Nigerians,” Ologunagba argued that the president should have used the opportunity to apologize and outline steps to tackle national challenges. He specifically called for transparency regarding the nation’s earnings, including funds from the subsidy removal on petroleum products.
Calling on the national assembly to assert its oversight role, the PDP spokesperson urged lawmakers to hold the executive accountable for its actions. The opposition party remains unsatisfied with Tinubu’s New Year message, emphasizing the need for concrete actions to address the multifaceted issues affecting the nation.
