PDP Shifts NEC Meeting Again, Cites Reason

For the third time in three months, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its highly anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. Originally scheduled for August, the meeting was first moved to September, then October 2, and has now been rescheduled to November 28, 2024.

The decision to delay the meeting was made during an extended consultation involving the PDP Governors Forum, the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Working Committee (NWC), and other senior party figures. The meeting, which commenced at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, stretched into the early hours of Wednesday.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also chairs the PDP Governors Forum, addressed the press following the gathering. He explained that the postponement was strategic, aimed at ensuring the party’s leadership can focus on the upcoming Ondo State governorship election slated for November 16, 2024.

Mohammed emphasized, “The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting initially set for October 24, 2024, has been shifted to November 28, 2024. This decision allows the party to approach the Ondo gubernatorial election with the unity and strength needed to challenge the struggling APC government in the state.”

He further stressed the importance of party cohesion amidst efforts by detractors to sow division within the PDP. Mohammed called on party members to avoid divisive rhetoric and rally together as the PDP positions itself for a larger role in the 2027 elections.

The meeting was attended by key PDP organs, including the Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, National Working Committee, National Assembly leadership, and the Forum of Former Governors.
