PDP National Officer Resigns, Dumps Party in Kaduna

Honourable Magaji Alhassan, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hailing from Kaduna State, has sent shockwaves through the political landscape with his abrupt resignation and subsequent withdrawal from the party.

In a letter addressed to the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, Alhassan officially announced his resignation on October 5th, 2023, leaving the party he had long been associated with. Similarly, on October 7th, 2023, he communicated his withdrawal from the PDP in a letter penned to the party’s acting chairman of Kwabai B ward in the Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

While the exact cause for Alhassan’s departure from the PDP remains undisclosed, it’s noteworthy that he returned his membership card, attaching it to the letter handed over to the ward chairman.

The PDP in Kaduna State has been experiencing a series of resignations, with members crossing over to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). On October 10, 19 councillors and their supporters from all 23 Local Government Areas in Kaduna left the PDP for the APC.

At a press conference held in the state capital, these councillors cited their admiration for the purposeful leadership provided by Governor Senator Uba Sani as the primary reason for their defection. Ishaku Duchi, the councillor representing Yelwa ward in Chikun Local Government Area, led this group of defectors and implored the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Isah Ashiru, to withdraw his legal challenge against Governor Sani’s election at the appeal court, advocating for cooperation to advance the progress of Kaduna State.
