PDP Governors Opposing Coalition May Be Working for Tinubu – Dele Momodu4
Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has suggested that some PDP governors who are rejecting the idea of an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections may secretly be working to support President Bola Tinubu.
Momodu made the statement during an appearance on Arise Television on Monday, following a declaration from PDP governors ruling out the possibility of a merger or alliance with other political parties. This comes amid growing discussions about opposition parties forming a united front to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general elections.
During the interview, Momodu emphasized that no single opposition candidate—whether Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, or Rabiu Kwankwaso—can defeat Tinubu on their own. He stressed the need for opposition unity, drawing a parallel with the APC’s successful coalition strategy in 2015.
“Opposition leaders are very determined this time around to work together,” Momodu said. “The truth of the matter is Atiku cannot do it alone, Peter Obi cannot do it alone, and Rabiu Kwankwaso cannot do it alone.”
He warned that any PDP governor refusing to support a coalition might be covertly aiding the Tinubu presidency. “If our governors are saying no, we don’t want to go into a coalition, then it means that surreptitiously you are probably working for a Tinubu presidency,” he said.
Momodu also criticized what he described as fear among political figures, claiming some are intimidated by threats of arrest or prosecution. “People must learn from history; a bully only respects a bully, but all of us are already behaving like chickens,” he added. “Any governor or any senator or house member who may be tempted to just jump ship may jump to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.”
