PDP Candidate Beats Jibrin to Win Kano House of Reps Seat
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Alhaji Aliyu Datti Yako has declared winner of the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency rerun election in Kano state.
Announcing the result of the election held on Saturday, the Returning Officer, Professor Abdullahi Arabic declared that Yako polled 46,601 votes to beat his closest challenger, the controversial former House Committee Chairman on Appropriation and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulmumuni Jibrin Kofa who garnered 13,587 votes.
INEC had declared Jibrin winner of the election held on February 23, 2019 but Yako challenged the outcome and the court of Appeal ordered a rerun. Jibrin fell out with the leaders of his party in Kano state who vowed to work against his re-election.
A video emerged on social media where Jibrin was reportedly blocked by security men from going to congratulate the Kano state Governor, Umar Ganduje on his Supreme Court’s victory at the African House.
Jibrin had prior to the annulment of his election by the Appeal Court said he would no longer seek another term in the House of Representatives at the expiration of his tenure.
