Pastor Adeboye: Without Divine Intervention, $1 Could Have Reached ₦10,000

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has attributed Nigeria’s economic challenges to its reliance on imported fuel, warning that the naira’s exchange rate could have plummeted to ₦10,000 to $1 without divine intervention.

Speaking at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye underscored the urgent need for divine help to stabilize the country’s economy. He criticized the billions spent on non-functional refineries, leaving Nigeria dependent on imported petrol despite being a major oil producer.

“We need help, and it’s not human help; it’s divine help,” the cleric stated, stressing that prayer is essential in addressing the nation’s challenges.

Economic Challenges and Subsidy Removal

Pastor Adeboye linked the devaluation of the naira to deep-rooted issues in the oil sector. He noted that the financial strain caused by the removal of petrol subsidies angered those who had previously benefited from the system, further worsening the economic situation.

“Before our current President took office, we were aware that the root of our financial issues lay in the importation of petrol. Despite having oil, we continued to import petrol and waste billions on refineries that did not operate effectively,” he said.

He added that the removal of subsidies exposed inefficiencies and created a backlash from vested interests who profited under the old system.

The Power of Prayer

Reflecting on the rapid depreciation of the naira, Pastor Adeboye revealed that he sought divine intervention through prayer, alongside others who joined him.

“If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been worth ₦10,000 by now. This illustrates how much we need prayers,” he said.

A Call for National Reflection

Adeboye called on Nigerians to look beyond human solutions, emphasizing the need for spiritual and practical approaches to tackle the country’s economic and social challenges.
