Osinbajo: CAN Backtracks, Denies Endorsing Vice President
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has denied backing the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on allegations of receiving N90 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The Christian body in a statement issued at the weekend by the president, Samson Olasupo said the visit to the Vice President last week was not an endorsement of corruption or was meant to exonerate anyone from any allegations. He said they merely visited the Vice President to hear his own side of the story.
“There was no law that is against our action. At Presidential Villa, we had extensive discussion with the vice president and he told us his story. He said the allegation against him was baseless and should be treated as ‘rubbish’.
“Not only that, he told us that he was going to pursue the matter legally to prove his innocence. Thereafter, we assured him that if he is proven innocent, then we throw our weight behind him. We prayed for him and Nigeria, and urged him to continue to serve Nigeria with clean hands” Olasupo said.
CAN came under attack following the visit of its leaders to the Vice President. A former Deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank accused the group of endorsing corruption and desecrating the body of Christ.
