OOU Sparks Outrage Over Enforcement of ‘No Bra, No Exam’ Rule

A new enforcement of the dress code at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has stirred public backlash following the emergence of a viral video showing female students being frisked to confirm they were wearing bras before being allowed to take their exams.

The footage, widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter), shows students standing in line as school officials check for compliance with the policy. While some of the students appeared amused, others seemed visibly uncomfortable. The scene has sparked mixed reactions across social media, with debates intensifying over the university’s enforcement tactics and its broader implications.

Some users praised the policy as a return to moral discipline, with comments suggesting that the move was necessary to curb indecent dressing on campus. Others, however, condemned the policy as invasive and questioned the university’s priorities, arguing that it reflects a misplaced focus on superficial standards rather than academic excellence. Critics also raised concerns about autonomy and the policing of female bodies under the guise of moral enforcement.

In response to the controversy, Muizz Olatunji, popularly known as MAO and president of the OOU Students’ Union Government (SUG), acknowledged the longstanding policy on indecent dressing as outlined in the university’s student handbook. The handbook prohibits attire that exposes sensitive parts of the body, including breasts, buttocks, nipples, and belly buttons.

Olatunji noted that while the policy promotes modesty, the method of enforcement needs reconsideration. He stated that the union is in talks with the school management to seek alternative approaches that maintain dignity and mutual respect between students and staff. He further encouraged female students to avoid indecent dressing and uphold the values expected by the institution.

Despite growing public scrutiny, the university management has not yet issued an official statement addressing the widespread reactions.
