Disturbing Incident: University Student Allegedly Murdered by Ogun Road Union Workers, Police, Body Dumped on Roadside
Police operatives from Ago-Iwoye Police Station, in collaboration with officials of the Road Union Workers at Ago-Iwoye Park, are accused of killing Onadipe Oluwatosin, a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), also known as Peckulia. The incident reportedly occurred on December 17, 2023.
Oluwabunmi Michael Awoyemi took to social media to share the heart-wrenching details, explaining that Oluwatosin went to Ago-Iwoye Park to preach the gospel. According to eyewitnesses, a confrontation ensued when the park chairman accused him of disturbing the peace. The situation escalated, leading to a former park chairman allegedly striking Oluwatosin on the head with a heavy vulcanizer iron rod.
Disturbingly, the police were called to intervene, but instead of providing medical assistance, they reportedly took Oluwatosin away in their van. A week later, his lifeless body was found on Ijebu-ljesha road, staged to resemble a fatal motor accident. The family, initially unaware of the tragedy, had reported him missing, only to be later misled about his demise.
Awoyemi expressed gratitude for an anonymous eyewitness who reached out to the family, revealing the orchestrated cover-up by the police. He called for justice, urging government and human rights bodies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of all involved, including the policemen.
In response to the incident, the Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed arrests and an ongoing investigation. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough examination.
The tragic incident has raised concerns about the abuse of power and demands immediate attention from authorities to ensure justice prevails for Oluwatosin and prevent such atrocities in the future.
