One Suspect Killed, Four Victims Freed in Imo Anti-Kidnapping Raid

In a major breakthrough, operatives of the Imo State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, known as Tiger Base, alongside military personnel, have successfully dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate in the state. The operation, which took place on October 4, 2024, in the Ezioha community of Mbaitoli Local Government Area, led to the rescue of four victims and the killing of one suspect.

According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the intelligence-led operation followed the abduction of four individuals along Orlu Road on September 29, 2024. The victims, identified as Eze Okoro from Orlu LGA, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Nwosu from Ohi in Mbaitoli LGA, and 56-year-old Bartholomew from Benue State, were rescued unharmed.

The operation reportedly encountered heavy gunfire as the kidnappers engaged the security forces. In the ensuing exchange, one of the suspects was neutralized while others fled into nearby bushes, likely injured. The security team also recovered various items from the kidnappers’ hideout, including a pump-action gun, live and expended cartridges, locally-made explosives, a Biafra flag, a native bulletproof vest, and multiple vehicles, including two Highlander SUVs and a Toyota Camry.

Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, and the Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, praised the operatives for their swift and decisive action. Both officials urged the joint task force to sustain their efforts in combating crime and ensuring safety across the state.
