One Dead, Four Injured as Speeding Truck Crashes into Five Vehicles in Anambra
A fatal road accident on Saturday claimed the life of one driver and left four others injured along the Ihiala-Owerri Road in Anambra State. The crash, which occurred in Ihiala, involved six vehicles, including a Mack trailer, a Lexus 350 SUV, an Iveco truck, a Mitsubishi L300 truck, a Toyota Camry, and an Iveco tipper.
Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer was speeding when its brakes failed, causing the driver to lose control and ram into five other vehicles. The impact resulted in significant damage and brought traffic on the busy route to a standstill.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Bridget Asekhauno, said a total of eight men were involved in the crash. One of them, the driver of the Lexus SUV, was confirmed dead and has been taken to the hospital morgue, while four others sustained various injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Asekhauno expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery. She also reminded motorists of the importance of defensive driving, strict adherence to speed limits, and maintaining full attention while on the road.
“The FRSC rescue team from Ihiala responded swiftly, evacuating the injured and clearing the scene to restore normal traffic flow,” she said. “We appeal to all road users to remain cautious, especially on highways, and to report any road emergencies via our toll-free number, 122.”
