“Americans and Their Allies Are Preparing the Ground for Religious War in Nigeria” – Fani-Kayode
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has alleged that the United States, its Western allies, and certain Nigerian collaborators are working to instigate a religious war in the country.
In a statement titled *“The Fiction of Christian Genocide and the Conspiracy Against Nigeria”* posted on X on Sunday, Fani-Kayode said recent remarks by American and Canadian public figures about alleged “Christian genocide” in Nigeria were part of a larger scheme to destabilize the nation.
He expressed concern over comments by American television hosts Bill Maher and Van Jones, who accused Nigeria of persecuting Christians. He also referenced U.S. Senator Ted Cruz’s plan to introduce a bill to protect Christians in Nigeria, as well as a resolution by the Canadian Parliament naming Nigeria among the most dangerous countries for Christians.
Fani-Kayode questioned the sudden interest of Western nations in Nigeria’s religious affairs, saying, “The truth is that the Americans, their allies, and their local collaborators are carefully and craftily preparing the ground for a religious war in our country, and they want us to tear ourselves apart.”
While acknowledging that Christians have been victims of attacks by terrorist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP, he stressed that Muslims have also suffered greatly. He accused Western powers of hypocrisy, claiming they armed and supported the same terrorist groups now causing havoc in Nigeria.
According to Fani-Kayode, the renewed Western focus on Nigeria is a distraction from the war in Gaza and an attempt to punish Nigeria for condemning Israel’s actions at the United Nations. “Standing up for humanity is our only crime,” he said, praising Nigeria’s UN stance in support of a two-state solution and the protection of civilians in Gaza.
