One Dead, Five Injured as Lexus Jeep Rams Into Tricycles in Anambra
A tragic road accident in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, claimed one life and left five others injured in the early hours of Saturday.
The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. along People’s Club/Limca Road, near venues for the Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-elections.
Eyewitnesses reported that a Lexus Jeep, suspected at first to belong to security operatives, lost control at high speed and rammed into two tricycles. The impact left one occupant dead on the spot, while others sustained varying degrees of injury.
According to witnesses, four men inside the jeep fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning the vehicle and carrying away their rifles to avoid mob attack.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, noting that the vehicle involved had been recovered. He, however, clarified that investigations showed the Lexus Jeep does not belong to any security agency in the state, contrary to earlier claims.
Ikenga said:
“The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the accident that occurred this morning at People’s Club/Limca Road, Obosi. Preliminary findings reveal that the driver of the Lexus Jeep rammed into two tricycles, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to others. The occupants abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled.
“Police operatives from Isiowulu Division swiftly secured the area, recovered the vehicle, and evacuated victims to the hospital, where one was later confirmed dead. Further enquiries have established that the Lexus Jeep is not linked to any security agency in the state.”
The Police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
