Borno Man Cuts Off Own Manhood After Wife Refuses to Return
Residents of Bama, Borno State, were left in shock on Friday evening after a 50-year-old man, identified as Modu Isa, mutilated himself in a desperate act following his estranged wife’s refusal to reconcile with him.
The incident occurred in Hausari Ward, where eyewitnesses said Isa, overwhelmed with frustration, stabbed himself three times in the stomach before cutting off his manhood with a knife.
Alarmed community members rushed to the scene, restrained him, and quickly alerted the authorities. Police operatives arrived at the location, recovered the blood-stained knife as evidence, and transported Isa to the General Hospital in Bama. Medical personnel are said to be battling to save his life.
Confirming the incident, police sources disclosed that the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri for further investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that Isa’s drastic action stemmed from a long-running marital dispute. He had reportedly divorced his wife, Bayanxe Modu, three separate times. Under Islamic marital laws, such repeated divorces make reconciliation impermissible unless the woman marries another man and the marriage ends. Despite this, Isa allegedly continued to pressure her to return to him, which she firmly refused.
Neighbours said the rejection appeared to have pushed Isa into emotional distress, culminating in Friday’s self-inflicted violence.
The police have urged community members to remain calm while investigations continue.
