Ondo Policemen Abandon Colleague’s Corpse, Flee After Family Opens Coffin

A tragic incident in Ondo State has taken a shocking turn as some policemen fled after bringing the corpse of their late colleague, Inspector Yusif Suleiman Blessing, to his family home for burial. The officers reportedly abandoned both the coffin and their vehicle when family members insisted on opening the casket.

Inspector Yusuf, who was serving at Akotogbo in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, had been declared dead under unclear circumstances. His wife was informed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) that he had drowned while on duty. However, when the family insisted on inspecting the body, they discovered that he had been burnt to death, with a cracked skull, contradicting the official account of his demise.

According to a family source, the three officers who delivered the corpse refused to allow the coffin to be opened and fled the scene when the family insisted. They left the coffin and the vehicle in front of the family home in Osi community. The shocking discovery of Inspector Yusuf’s charred remains has raised suspicions of foul play, deepening the family’s grief and prompting demands for a thorough investigation.

Spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, has assured the public that further details will be provided once investigations are concluded.
