Ondo APC Primary: Governor Aiyedatiwa Takes Early Lead Amidst Controversy
In the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has taken an early lead according to initial reports from the 18 council areas of the state. The primary election, however, has not been without its challenges, as incidents of protest and violence have marred the proceedings, prompting some aspirants to call for the cancellation of the exercise.
Four of the governorship aspirants—Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, Olugbenga Edema, Wale Akinterinwa, and Prof. Dayo Faduyile—have raised objections to the conduct of the election, alleging that electoral materials were not distributed to many of the 203 wards in the state.
Despite these complaints, reports from across Ondo State suggest that Governor Aiyedatiwa is leading in the Central, South, and Northern senatorial districts, outperforming the 15 other aspirants in the race. The primary election’s results are expected to be announced later tonight or early tomorrow, providing a clearer picture of the final outcome.
Given the unrest and the allegations surrounding the primary election, it remains to be seen whether the party will take any corrective measures or address the complaints raised by the disgruntled aspirants. Observers are watching closely for the official results and any subsequent developments.
