“Governors and Their Predecessors Are Fighting in Other States, but in Ebonyi, We Are Celebrating” – Umahi

In a refreshing display of unity, the immediate past Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator David Umahi, has expressed his delight over the continued recognition and respect he receives from his successor, Governor Francis Nwifuru. During a conversation with reporters after receiving an honorary doctorate from Ebonyi State University in Abakaliki, the current Minister of Works highlighted the significance of this ongoing relationship.

Umahi stated, “It is not common to hand over to a successor and still be continually honoured by him. This is the handwork of God, and I am grateful to Him and the governor.” He underscored that this harmonious transition is a rare sight in Nigerian politics, where incumbent governors often engage in conflicts with their predecessors.

“Governors and their predecessors are fighting in many states, but in Ebonyi, we are always celebrating. This is the mercy of God and the wisdom bestowed on the governor,” he remarked. The former governor also praised Governor Nwifuru’s efforts in fostering peace and continuity in the state, suggesting that such goodwill should serve as a model for other regions.

Additionally, Umahi commended the work done by Ebonyi State University under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, promising continued support for the institution. “I commend the Vice-Chancellor and management for the amazing feats recorded by the institution; we are all proud to have a university with such records,” he said.

While appreciating the honorary degree bestowed upon him, Umahi pledged to collaborate with fellow awardees to provide significant support to the university. His remarks showcased the collaborative spirit and mutual respect that should prevail between state leaders, even after their tenure.
