Onanuga Blames Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan for Nigeria’s Economic Woes
Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, has attributed Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges to the decisions made by former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidents, including Olusegun Obasanjo, the late Umar Musa Yar’Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan.
In a statement issued on Monday, Onanuga criticized the economic policies implemented by these past administrations, claiming they laid the foundation for the hardships that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government has been addressing since 2015.
“The current economic crisis the APC administrations have been battling since 2015 is the product of the poor choices in economic management made by Obasanjo and the two successors from his party,” Onanuga said.
He also accused Obasanjo and his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar, of capitalizing on the weaknesses in Nigeria’s tertiary education system by establishing private universities during their tenure.
The statement comes in response to Obasanjo’s recent critique of President Tinubu, whom he labeled as “baba go-slow,” accusing him of implementing ineffective economic policies. Obasanjo also claimed that the international community perceives Tinubu’s policies as failing.
