Labour Party Releases Timetable for Ward, LG, State Congresses

The Labour Party (LP) has released a schedule for its upcoming congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels. This was disclosed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiorah Ifoh. According to the timetable, ward congresses will take place between February and March 2025, followed by local government congresses from April to May 2025, and state congresses scheduled for June to July 2025.

In a statement, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party also directed states that have met the necessary registration requirements to inform the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within the designated timeframe.

Additionally, the LP NEC announced the establishment of key party committees aimed at enhancing its operations. These include the Electoral Reform Committee, Political Education Committee, and State Elders Council.

Labour Party National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, emphasized the significance of the Electoral Reform Committee, explaining that the party had been a major victim in the 2023 general election. He noted that the committee would work to ensure that the electoral process in Nigeria is credible, transparent, and fair. The committee, chaired by Hon. Benedict Etanabene with Hon. Okey Joe as co-chair and Dudu Manuga as secretary, is expected to submit its report within eight weeks.

On the creation of the Political Education Committee, Abure highlighted the need for a reorientation of the public, stressing that leadership challenges were central to the nation’s struggles. He appointed Rt Hon Ativie Elizabeth, former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, as the committee’s chairman, with Mr. Bulus Maisamari serving as the secretary. Further members of this committee will be announced in the near future.
