Okowa pledges to keep supporting persons living with disabilities
The Delta government has pledged to sustain support for persons with impairment, especially the deaf and dumb, by including them in empowerment programmes.
Chief of Staff (Government House), Festus Agas, stated this on Monday while addressing members of the Association of the Deaf and Dumb who were at the Government House, Asaba, on an awareness and advocacy procession.
Mr Agas, accompanied by the Delta governor’s chief press secretary, Olisa Ifeajika, lauded the group for their peaceful conduct. He reassured that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration would continue to provide for persons with disabilities in all skill acquisition programmes.
“I want to welcome you to Government House, Asaba, and thank you for the orderly manner in which you have organised yourselves in carrying out your advocacy,” said the state official. “I want to reassure you that as a government, we run an inclusive administration… The government made provisions for the deaf and dumb and other physically challenged persons in the state.”
He urged the group to take advantage of the ongoing cycle of RYSA selection for trainees to enlist and acquire skills.
Mr Agas promised to convey their message to Mr Okowa.
The association’s president, Emmanuel Oyibo, lauded the government for allowing them to organise the Deaf and Dumb Awareness Week. He disclosed that the programme would provide an opportunity to enlighten the public on breaking the communication barrier with the deaf.
