By Arthur Maduka
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the death of two individuals, the abduction of two others, and the rescue of two victims—including a woman currently receiving medical treatment—following a violent cult-related attack at Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the shooting occurred around 8:40 p.m. on June 19, 2025, at Total Junction and Tipper Junction in Oko. Armed assailants, reportedly using a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without a license plate, opened fire indiscriminately at the Total Junction area, wounding four people. Two of those victims were later rescued by security operatives, with one of them—a woman—now receiving treatment in the hospital.
The police also confirmed the alleged abduction of two individuals at Tipper Junction during the attack. The identities of the abducted persons have not been disclosed.
Responding swiftly to the crisis, police operatives led by the Area Commander of Aguata and supported by a joint security force comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and local vigilante groups, secured the scene and commenced investigations. The command stated that its operatives are actively working with eyewitness accounts and evidence gathered from the scene in a bid to track down the attackers.
The Anambra State Police Command has appealed for calm within the community and assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
