Ohanaeze Youth Wing Alleges Planned Protest Against Uzodimma in Abuja
The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has alleged that a planned protest against Hope Uzodimma in Abuja is being sponsored to create political tension.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the group claimed that individuals preparing for the protest had already been lodged in hotels across the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the demonstration.
The youth wing said the protest, reportedly organised under the banner of a coalition of civil society organisations, was aimed at making “spurious allegations” against Uzodimma, who also serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF).
The statement was signed by the National Youth Leader of Ohanaeze, Ogbonnia Wenceslaus, and the group’s secretary, Chikwudi Dike.
According to the group, a former leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students is coordinating the protest.
Ohanaeze urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to remain vigilant, alleging that the protest could be used to disrupt public order.
The organisation also questioned the motive of the coalition behind the planned protest, insisting that there was no crisis within the Progressive Governors Forum.
The development follows reports last week suggesting that Uzodimma had been removed as chairman of the PGF. However, the forum later denied the claim.
Nasir Idris and Uba Sani subsequently told reporters that the PGF remained united and was not facing internal disputes.
