Ogun State Government Begins N10,000 Cash Awards for Primary and Secondary School Students

In a bid to alleviate the financial burden on parents and guardians, the Ogun State government has commenced the distribution of N10,000 cash awards to 100,000 primary and secondary school students across the state. This initiative, spearheaded by Governor Dapo Abiodun, aims to provide relief to indigent pupils and students within the public school system.

The disbursement, which covers over 2,000 public schools spread across the state’s four divisions, marks the fulfillment of a promise made by Governor Abiodun to support economically disadvantaged students. Speaking on the initiative, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, highlighted its significance amidst prevailing economic challenges in the country.

“Given the economic realities, the governor has taken proactive measures to alleviate the financial strain on families,” remarked Prof. Arigbabu during his visit to several schools in Abeokuta to oversee the distribution process. “By extending support through the education sector, we can effectively reach those in need and provide essential relief.”

Explaining the selection process, Prof. Arigbabu emphasized its objectivity, stating that teachers within the school system were tasked with identifying indigent students. “The process ensures fairness and transparency in identifying beneficiaries,” he added.

The cash award initiative underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing education and welfare, particularly during challenging times. As recipients receive their payments, it is anticipated that the initiative will ease the financial strain on families and contribute to the well-being of students across the state.
