In a recent development, Ibrahim Giwa has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Ogun State Magistrate Court in the Isabo area of Abeokuta. Giwa was found guilty of burglary and stealing in a case involving the theft of various items.
The court heard that on Monday, Giwa unlawfully entered a dwelling house situated within the Federal Government of Nigeria Housing Estate in the Ajebo axis of Ogun State. The prosecution, led by ASP Olakunle, revealed that Giwa not only damaged property but also stole valuable items from the house.
The stolen items included transformer cables with an estimated value of N1,700,000, an aluminum window valued at N85,000, an OX ceiling fan valued at N21,000, an aluminum window net worth N25,000, and a heat extractor device valued at N21,500.
Giwa faced a three-count charge, including malicious damage and stealing. The charges were as follows:
Breaking into a dwelling house within the Federal Government of Nigeria Housing Estate with the intent to commit malicious damage and stealing, punishable under section 413 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State.
Willfully and unlawfully damaging the mentioned items, leading to an offence punishable under section 451 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State.
Stealing the mentioned items, contravening sections 393 and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State.
After careful consideration, the magistrate, Mrs. O.O Odumosu, found Ibrahim Giwa guilty on all counts. As a result, he was sentenced to six months of imprisonment for the first count, three months for the second count, and an additional three months for the third count. The sentences are to be served concurrently.
Furthermore, Mrs. Odumosu ordered Giwa to pay a fine of N30,000 in addition to the prison term. The court emphasized that the one-year imprisonment and the fine would run concurrently.
