Obi Rejects Allegations of Violence, Emphasizes Non-Violent Path to Rescuing Nigeria
In a resolute response to recent media speculation, Peter Gregory Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has vehemently denied allegations of planning a violent takeover of political power in Nigeria. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Pastor Obiora Ifoh, issued a statement that categorically dismissed these claims and reaffirmed Obi’s commitment to a peaceful transition of power.
The statement released by Pastor Obiora Ifoh addressed the swirling rumors that had surfaced in both print and video form, suggesting that Peter Obi was on the verge of imminent arrest. These reports included purported “prophecies” urging prayers for Obi and insinuating his involvement in potential violence. The Labour Party made it clear that such baseless rumors should not merit attention.
However, the party expressed its concern when these fabricated stories were juxtaposed with manipulated video clips from pre-election and campaign speeches by Obi, in which he emphasized the importance of reclaiming Nigeria through non-violent means. The party deemed this attempt to present these old speeches as recent remarks “mischievous, if not criminal,” with the apparent goal of falsely implicating Obi in violent actions.
The statement continued to highlight Obi’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law and his advocacy for peaceful politics. It pointed out that on March 1st, 2023, when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the election results at 4 a.m., Obi faced pressure from supporters across the nation and in the diaspora to authorize mass protests. However, he firmly declined, asserting that his vision for reclaiming Nigeria was rooted in a lawful and peaceful process, not violence.
The Labour Party firmly refuted the recent insinuations that Obi was orchestrating violence, emphasizing that he is not a violent individual. Instead, they underlined his belief that justice can be achieved through due process and that pushing his supporters into the streets was unnecessary.
In conclusion, the Labour Party advised prophets and soothsayers, whether real or imagined, to refrain from involving Peter Obi in their prophecies. They asserted that Obi’s faith lay in the people of Nigeria and his belief in a brighter future for the nation through lawful means, rather than in the predictions of fortune tellers.
With this resolute statement, Peter Gregory Obi and the Labour Party have made it abundantly clear that their path to rescuing Nigeria is a peaceful one, firmly rooted in democratic values and adherence to the rule of law.
