Governor Soludo Vows to Break the Dynasty of Poverty in Anambra State
In a compelling declaration during a mass held at St. Patrick Catholic Cathedral, Governor Chukwuma Soludo reaffirmed his commitment to ending the cycle of poverty in Anambra State, ensuring equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds.
Governor Soludo, speaking on the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary, stated, “We shall break the dynasty of poverty in Anambra. We are on our road to a liveable and prosperous homeland, where the children of the poor will attend the same schools as the children of the rich.” He lamented that financial constraints often prevented children from impoverished families from attending mission schools in the state.
To tackle this issue head-on, Soludo announced, “We have a special package and grants to encourage mission schools as we try to help children of the poor. We are deliberately focused on the government’s primary responsibility of providing the best quality education to children of the poor in public schools.”
Governor Soludo didn’t stop at education; he also emphasized his administration’s commitment to providing essential healthcare services for the underprivileged. He disclosed recent efforts, including the recruitment of 5,000 teachers and the provision of free antenatal and maternal care for pregnant women.
Furthermore, Governor Soludo urged Anambra residents to remain vigilant against the spread of fake news on social media, warning that such misinformation could sow discord and panic within the state.
During the homily, Rev. Fr. Charles Ndubuisi emphasized that corruption remains a significant challenge in Nigeria. Nevertheless, he expressed optimism in Governor Soludo’s administration, commending its dedication to realizing a liveable and prosperous homeland for all Anambra residents.
The mass witnessed the presence of Anambra Executive Council members, lawmakers, as well as representatives from the armed forces and paramilitary organizations, underscoring the significance of Governor Soludo’s commitment to uplifting the state’s marginalized communities.
As Nigeria commemorates its independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, Governor Soludo’s unwavering resolve to eradicate poverty and enhance the lives of Anambra’s citizens marks a pivotal step towards a brighter future for the state.
