Obi Cubana Responds to Adopted Son’s ‘Next of Kin’ Claim, Declares Biological Son as His Heir

Nigerian businessman and socialite Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has ignited widespread online reactions following a social media post that appeared to refute claims made by his adopted son, Chidi, about being his next of kin.

Chidi had stirred attention on TikTok after posting a video in which he claimed the status, captioning it, “Nothing do my shoulder, I just realize say I be next of kin.” The video quickly went viral, prompting speculation and online chatter.

In a move many interpreted as a direct response, Obi Cubana posted a photo on Instagram featuring himself and his biological son, Alex. He captioned the image, “Ancient and modern, eyes on the ball. @dtwalx aka next of kin.” Alex then commented, “Using my headphones right now,” to which Cubana replied, “Correct boy, original next-of-kin.”

The exchange sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users criticizing Cubana for handling the situation publicly rather than resolving it in private. One user on X, @Abazwhyllzz, said, “Unnecessary. He should have told the guy to delete on TikTok, then solved it internally instead of coming to post sha. I be poor man make I mind my business.”

Another user, @Soyecatherings, questioned the implications of the post, writing, “I don’t think he thought of the consequences in the long run. This wasn’t the best way to address it sha. But even thinking about being the next of kin now simply means Obi has to be unalive or old enough to not be able to run things.”

Others defended Chidi’s video as light-hearted, with @Gladys_Onyetem commenting, “A child that was jst doing a harmless video, una don reason plenty things put, na wah for una ooo… Una even Dey say na adopted child, I thought that’s his brother’s child? Una don project una wicked family negativity on this innocent video.”

User @DemoOfUK added a more critical take, writing, “Nawa o. They say make you come chop, you carry long spoon come. Adopted why you wan dey claim omo onile for another person land.”

The situation continues to trend as online users debate family dynamics, inheritance issues, and the boundaries of social media content.
