Obaseki Allegedly Attacked, Stripped Naked in Benin City
Don Pedro Obaseki, a former Managing Director of DASR Communications and Chief Executive Officer of Hosamudia Farm, was on Sunday allegedly attacked and stripped naked by suspected thugs in Benin City, Edo State.
Sources said the incident occurred at Uwa Primary School, where Obaseki had gone to play football. He was reportedly confronted and assaulted by a group of assailants before the situation escalated.
Obaseki, who is a cousin of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, was later seen in a video circulating on social media kneeling at the gate of the Palace of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II. The circumstances surrounding how he got to the palace remain unclear.
Eyewitnesses claimed the suspected attackers attempted to force their way into the palace, telling palace guards that they had brought an “Oghion,” a term loosely described as an enemy of the Oba.
Palace sources said the incident coincided with a thanksgiving service, as the Oba was preparing to leave for the Holy Arousa Church. Some chiefs at the scene reportedly urged calm to prevent any disturbance.
Despite resistance from the suspected attackers, palace chiefs were said to have intervened and escorted Obaseki into the palace.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Edo State Police Command or the palace authorities on the incident. Further details are expected.
