Nursing Mother Slumps, Dies While Breastfeeding Her Baby in Akure
A tragic incident occurred in the Oke Aro area of Akure, near the Dele Bread axis, when a nursing mother reportedly died while breastfeeding her baby.
Eyewitnesses said the woman, identified as a yam seller in the area, was seen earlier in the morning exchanging greetings with neighbours before sitting down to feed her child. Moments later, she reportedly complained of sudden weakness and fatigue.
“She said she was feeling tired and weak. She drank a bottle of Coca-Cola, hoping to regain strength, but suddenly slumped and died,” an eyewitness told *The Hope*, a newspaper owned by the Ondo State Government, on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Residents quickly rushed her to a nearby hospital, but health workers on duty confirmed she was brought in dead.
Some sympathisers suggested her death may have been linked to malnutrition or poor feeding, as she was said to have been struggling to eat well in recent times.
Her husband, a commercial driver, was reportedly away at work when the incident occurred.
The tragic news drew a crowd of sympathisers to the family’s home, with neighbours describing the deceased as calm, friendly, and hardworking.
