NSCDC Apprehends 76 Individuals Allegedly Involved in Same-Sex Relationships in Gombe
In a recent operation, the Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended 76 individuals suspected to be engaged in same-sex relationships within the state. This development came to light following a tip-off regarding a planned same-sex birthday celebration, culminating in a marriage ceremony.
The NSCDC personnel acted swiftly, preventing the proposed wedding from taking place, asserting the agency’s uncompromising stance against such social vices. Muhammad Bello Mu’azu, the Gombe State NSCDC Commandant, made the revelation during a briefing for journalists at the Command headquarters in Gombe on a Sunday.
Represented by the Public Relations Officer, SC Buhari Sa’ad, Muhammad Mu’azu revealed that, out of the 76 suspects apprehended, 59 were males, with 21 of them openly confessing to being involved in homosexual relationships. In addition to the male suspects, 17 females were taken into custody, believed to have been engaged in same-sex relationships at the event.
Mu’azu disclosed, “They were arrested at Duwa plaza along Bauchi-Gombe expressway, holding a homosexual birthday party and had plans to conduct a same-sex wedding before our officers intervened.” He emphasized that these arrests were a manifestation of the NSCDC’s commitment to combating social vices in the region.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating moral values among the youth, the Commandant expressed his intent to provide education to the culprits, thereby diverting their attention away from such activities. Following a comprehensive investigation, the detainees will be prosecuted, answering for their involvement in these social vices, which constitute crimes in Gombe.
