“Notorious Kidnap Kingpin ‘Dogo’ Apprehended with UK Residence Permit, ATM Cards, Contraband in Edo State

In a significant breakthrough, the Edo State Police Command has captured Idris Amedu, a 25-year-old Fulani herdsman infamously known as ‘Dogo,’ believed to be the mastermind behind a series of violent kidnappings in the Niger Delta region. ‘Dogo’ had been on the police’s most-wanted list for his alleged involvement in these crimes, including the killing of law enforcement officers during their operations.

The arrest unfolded in Ahor Community near Benin City when ‘Dogo’ emerged from a wooded area carrying a bag containing items believed to belong to one of his victims at approximately 10 p.m. on September 20th. Detectives at Egba Police Station in the Uhunmwonde local government area acted on reliable intelligence that led to this crucial arrest.

Items confiscated from the suspect during his arrest include eight distinct ATM cards from both local and international banks, a foreign driving license, a British residence permit, foreign cards bearing the names “Mr. Afam Ogbu” and “Mrs. Ogbu Mary Theresa” with accompanying passport photographs, as well as passport photographs of a Caucasian woman and three young African men.

Furthermore, police seized a company staff I.D. card with a photograph and the name “Oguejiofor John Uchenna,” an ATM card registered to one “Favour Obayuwana,” and international passports belonging to foreigners. Among the confiscated items were a pair of female wedding rings and necklaces.

During interrogation, Idris Amedu, who exclusively communicated in the Hausa language, vehemently denied any involvement in the series of kidnappings. He claimed to have picked up the bag by the roadside and stated that he was en route to a nearby police station to deliver it to the authorities when he was apprehended.

Edo State Police spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed that ‘Dogo’ had long been a target of the police’s efforts. Nwabuzor asserted, “Investigations are already underway, and the suspect will soon face charges in court, where the truth behind these serious allegations will be unveiled.” The capture of ‘Dogo’ has provided a glimmer of hope in the ongoing battle against kidnapping and violence in the Niger Delta region.
