“Northern Leaders Spreading Lies Ahead of 2027 Elections” – Kwankwaso
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former governor of Kano State, has accused some Northern leaders of spreading misinformation and interfering in the selection of candidates for the 2027 general elections.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso criticized these leaders for claiming to represent the North while promoting unqualified candidates and fostering division. “This oppressive behavior is creating discord in our communities. Elders in the North, some of whom are our parents and brothers, should avoid favoritism when supporting candidates. Decisions must be based on truth and integrity,” he said.
The former NNPP presidential candidate also denied rumors of a supposed pact with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) to alternate terms in office. “I have heard claims that about forty-five Mallams were gathered and told that I agreed to a pact where Atiku would serve for four years, I would serve for another four, and Peter Obi for eight. This is completely untrue. No such agreement exists,” Kwankwaso stated.
He urged Northern leaders to refrain from misleading the public and instead focus on promoting unity and democratic principles.
