No Room for Ballot Box Snatching or Violence – Tinubu Warns Ahead of Edo Election

 

 

As the Edo governorship election approaches, President Bola Tinubu has made a strong appeal to all stakeholders, urging them to uphold peace and respect the democratic process. The election is set to take place on September 21, 2024.

 

In a statement released by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu called on governorship candidates, political parties, and their supporters to refrain from violence and any attempts to disrupt the electoral process, such as ballot snatching.

 

“President Tinubu emphasises that democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game,” the statement read. He further expressed confidence in the voters’ ability to make informed decisions about their future leadership.

 

The president commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its commitment to conducting a free and fair election, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring a smooth and peaceful process. He also praised the governorship candidates for focusing their campaigns on key issues affecting the people of Edo, including economic growth and improved livelihoods.

 

Highlighting his trust in Nigeria’s security agencies and electoral officials, President Tinubu expressed his “unwavering confidence in their professionalism and integrity,” while urging them to remain impartial and avoid any actions that might compromise the credibility of the election.

 

He encouraged the citizens of Edo to maintain peace during the voting process and resolve any disputes through appropriate channels, ensuring that the election reflects the will of the people.
